I often hear from aspiring professionals, "I want to be [fill in the blank]", yet they also express they are stuck on how to achieve their desires. I positively challenge them by asking, "What's the definition of [fill in the blank]?" They pause because they don't fully understand the question.
Being healthier is an amazing desire but without a [personalized definition] of what that means to you, your goal is too vague and studies confirm, individuals are less motivated to reach the goal.
Let's say, you desire to be healthier and the [personalized definition] is getting better sleep or dropping a bad food habit. Because you're being more specific, you're 40% more likely to put energy into the goal.
